• The foam element can be washed and used again: after washing and drying it well, oil it with air filter oil (it is in the "Oils & care" category) — dry foam lets dust through
• When to change it: when the element stays grey even after washing, when it is torn, or when the rubber sleeve has gone hard and cracked
