Mechanical mixture enricher, KEIHIN STAGE 6 — commonly called a choke: it feeds a cold engine a richer mixture, worked by a lever or a cable.

  • Mechanical: you work it with a lever or a cable — when to switch it off is your decision
  • It fails in two ways: either it stops enriching altogether — a cold engine will not start until you give it throttle, while a warm one runs fine; or it sticks on — the engine drinks petrol, smokes, and the plug sooties up
  • Compare it with your own: the shape of the body, the mounting, and the position of the lever or cable — that is what the photos are for
